The Taskforce Veteran team, with the support of local businesses and the community, has successfully activated crisis housing accommodation for veterans and their families in their Cessnock project. This initiative has been a significant step towards addressing the housing needs of veterans in the area.
New England MP Barnaby Joyce has been a steadfast supporter of the city from its inception. He has played a crucial role in securing funding for memorial projects in the Hunter region and various charity projects in Sydney, including those at Scheyville. His dedication to the cause has been instrumental in driving the success of these initiatives.
Brett Wild, Chairman of Taskforce Veteran, expressed his gratitude for Barnaby Joyce’s unwavering support. “Barnaby definitely understands the challenges faced by veterans in Australia and is always willing to be an extra voice in driving the change we need to see in looking after veterans and their families better,” said Brett.
Barnaby Joyce congratulated the charity on this project, noting their ability to make the crisis accommodation project happen without the support of the government. He was particularly impressed by the business and community response in activating these houses.
Brett Wild further emphasized the importance of the business and community model in making this project a success. “We have the business/community model to make this work. We just need to see the process of housing assets not being used by all levels of government, and those corporations that have taken over and do nothing with them, sped up. With 92 veteran families and many other non-veteran families without a place to call home, we need to be doing much better. Our approach is proof that we can get business and community behind us to make things work,” he stated.
The Taskforce Veteran team remains committed to supporting veterans and their families, ensuring they have access to safe and secure housing. This project in Cessnock is a testament to what can be achieved when the community comes together for a common cause.
